What is MP3?

MP3 is basically a compressed audio file near CD quality. Unfortunately you'll notice that the
average CD track takes up about 50 megabytes of space. With the MP3 technlology it is possible
to shrink the file size about 90% from a CD, almost without any loss in sound quality. An average
soundtrack would be some 4 MB in MP3-format. ( MP3 is short for MPEG3, witch means Motion
Pictures Expert Group Layer 3. )

How do I play an MP3 file? You'll have to use an MP3 player. There are several players for you to
choose between and download in our software archive.

Can I make my own MP3's? Yes, but you'll need an MP3 encoder, read more about how to encode
MP3 files at this page.

Are MP3's illegal? The answer is NO. It depends on what the file contain. If you purchase a CD,
encode the soundtracks to MP3 and then post it on your website, yes, it would be illegal. That has
nothing to do with the MP3 file format, but it would be a violation of U.S. and international
copyright laws. In other words, if you make your own music and want to share it with the world,
you are free to encode it to MP3 and post the files on your website.
